Atherectomy

Atherectomy

In order to treat a narrowing of the arteries associated with Peripheral Artery Disease (PAD), an atherectomy may be performed. In this outpatient procedure, a catheter is fed into an artery through a small cut in the skin. After navigating through the arterial system to the site of narrowed arteries, a sharp blade is used to remove the plaque from the blood vessel. Afterwards, an increase in blood flow and reduction in Peripheral Artery Disease symptoms are generally achieved. Alternatively, an angioplasty may be performed to help improve blood flow.

Atherectomy

An atherectomy at NG Vascular & Vein Center is an outpatient procedure, so patients will return home the same day. Patients should generally be able to begin resuming normal daily activities within a few days.
