Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT)

Deep Vein Thrombosis Treatment (DVT)

A serious condition, DVT occurs when blood moves too slowly through your veins, and a blood clot is formed. Most often, deep vein thrombosis occurs in the lower leg, thigh, or pelvis. If the blood clot breaks free, it can move through the bloodstream to the lungs, where it become lodged and cause a potentially fatal pulmonary embolism (PE).

Deep vein thrombosis (DVT) treatment

The symptoms of DVT can include swelling in the affected leg, pain that can feel like cramping or soreness, red or discolored skin on the leg, or a feeling of warmth on the leg.

Age, smoking, obesity, and prolonged sitting or bed rest are risk factors for developing DVT. Pregnancy and family history can also increase the risk of developing a deep vein thrombosis.

Proximal and extensive DVT requires thrombectomy (clot busting) and, occasionaly, IVC filter placement
