Rapid Limb Salvage Program

Urgent Vascular Care for PAD & Critical Limb Ischemia

48–72 Hour Rapid Access | Led by Dr. Nazar Golewale

Nonhealing wounds, foot ulcers, numbness, or blackened toes are medical warning signs — not conditions to “wait and see.”

At NG Vascular & Vein Center, our Rapid Limb Salvage Program is designed to provide time-sensitive vascular evaluation and treatment for patients at risk of limb loss due to Peripheral Artery Disease (PAD) or Critical Limb Ischemia (CLI).

If you or a loved one has been told an amputation may be necessary — or if wounds are not healing — you deserve an urgent second opinion.

When Circulation Is the Problem, Time Matters

PAD and CLI can progress quickly. Delays in restoring blood flow increase the risk of:

  • Infection
  • Tissue loss
  • Amputation
  • Serious long-term complications

Cold weather, diabetes, and reduced sensation in the feet can further worsen circulation, allowing wounds to deteriorate without obvious pain.

We were seeing too many patients referred after weeks or months of wound care, when their disease had already progressed. This program was created to provide timely access to vascular care — when it matters most.

One-Stop Limb Salvage: Rapid Access Program

Consult + Imaging + Treatment Plan Within 48–72 Hours

This program is designed for urgent but coordinated care, not delays.

Rapid evaluation is available for patients with:

  • Nonhealing wounds or ulcers (>2 weeks)
  • Diabetic foot ulcers
  • Rest pain or night pain
  • Numbness or reduced sensation in the feet
  • Toe discoloration, black toe, or gangrene
  • Known or suspected PAD or CLI

Program features include:

  • Expedited vascular consultation
  • Rapid ABI and arterial duplex testing
  • Angiographic and revascularization evaluation (when indicated)
  • Coordinated care across NG Vascular locations in Indiana and Illinois

What Is Limb Salvage?

Limb salvage is a comprehensive, multidisciplinary approach focused on identifying and treating circulation problems before amputation becomes necessary.

Rather than treating wounds alone, we evaluate blood flow to the entire leg and foot and create a personalized plan to:

  • Restore circulation
  • Support wound healing
  • Relieve pain at rest and with walking
  • Reduce infection risk
  • Preserve the limb whenever possible

Atherectomy: A Key Tool in Limb Salvage

Atherectomy is one of the minimally invasive procedures used within our limb salvage strategy to restore blood flow in patients with PAD or limb-threatening ischemia.

During this outpatient procedure:

  • A catheter is inserted through a small skin incision
  • Plaque is removed from inside the artery
  • Blood flow to the leg and foot is improved

Atherectomy is often combined with angioplasty or other therapies as part of a complete revascularization plan, not as a standalone treatment.

Most patients return home the same day and resume normal activities within a few days.

Why Choose NG Vascular & Vein Center

  • 2,000+ minimally invasive PAD procedures performed
  • One of the only known rapid-access limb salvage programs in the region
  • Close collaboration with podiatry, wound care, and referring physicians
  • Focus on early intervention, coordination, and limb preservation

Do Not Wait on Worsening Symptoms

If you notice wounds that aren’t healing, numbness, color changes, or increasing pain, early evaluation may preserve treatment options.
