Frozen Shoulder Embolization

Frozen shoulder embolization is a minimally invasive treatment for adhesive capsulitis. It is performed by an interventional radiologist who uses fluoroscopic (X-ray) imaging to guide the procedure.

During the procedure, a catheter is inserted into the blood stream and advanced to the abnormal blood vessels within the shoulder capsule. Using special miniature devices within the catheter, the doctor embolizes or partially blocks the flow of blood through these vessels. This reduces the inflammation within the shoulder and delivers substantial pain relief over the following several days.

Those who have this procedure have reported significant pain relief, along with an increase in shoulder function. They also experience a reduced need for medication. The procedure is safer than surgery and side effects are rare.

Dr. Golewale of NG Vascular is one of the first doctors to offer this treatment on an outpatient basis in the United States. If you do not wish to have surgery and are looking for a less invasive way to treat adhesive capsulitis, frozen shoulder embolization may be right for you.
